Future Trends

The publication of European and International Standards for liquid applied membranes and the European Technical Approval for watertight covering kits will enable systems based on dispersions, cement compositions and reaction resin adhesive to be used as tanking systems beneath ceramic tiling. They will introduce a series of minimum standards for such properties as tensile adhesion strength initially, after heat ageing, water contact and contact with lime water, plus waterproofing and crack bridging ability. Such systems including drainage outlets, pipe penetrations etc. will be subject to CE marking requirements.

It is likely that the use of liquid applied waterproofing membranes will almost become mandatory in domestic and commercial installation where wet room services are installed, as is the case in Scandinavia.
